Make a Beast in Blender: Final Project
For this assignment, I had high aspirations and expectations for myself. I was quickly humbled. I started out with the idea of creating a couple of 'Barbie Fairytopia' inspired creatures; very fun, cute, colorful and animated. When first trying Blender, I struggled immensely with the tracing model. For the life of me, my brain could not grasp it. When I was introduced to the sculpting process, I really flourished. It was much easier to but the ideas in my head on the screen. By the end of the project, I ended up really enjoying Blender and plan on using it in the future.
My end result consists of three creatures that live in a super fun, colorful, artificial, Lisa Frank world. I wanted to make these creatures cute and bubbly, so they can roam their soon to be virtual world. I originally was just looking for fun and colorful skins that I could dress my creatures with when my seat partner, Matti, inspired me. She told me that my characters reminded her of something from Lisa Frank. With that tid-bit of inspiration, I constructed my next characters with this idea in mind. Growing up, I was a huge fan of Lisa Frank and had all of her notebooks, folders, pencils and so on. Knowing her branding and style, I decided I would make my own creatures that could have been on a Lisa Frank notebook, but will now have their own personality, range of movement, animated world.
